Wobbly handrails fixed, new railings installed, and worn stairs rebuilt with hardwood treads. For homes and rentals in Vancouver, Battle Ground, Camas, and across Clark County.
Stairs get used more than any other part of a house, and it shows. Handrails work loose, balusters rattle, and treads wear through. Some fixes take an hour. Others are a full rebuild, from rough framing to oak treads and a new railing.
Real jobs.
Real photos.

Before: rough-framed stairs. The starting point for a full staircase remodel.

Oak treads going in. New oak treads and white risers, covered to protect them while the work goes on.

Railing and balusters. An oak handrail and white balusters, with the new treads still covered.

After: the finished staircase. Oak treads, white risers, and a matching handrail.

Handrails on both sides. New wood handrails on both walls of a narrow stairway.

Front steps, re-treaded. Worn treads on a set of front steps replaced with new boards.

Then painted to match. The same steps painted and taped off while the paint dries.

Planning stairs & railings
How are handrail and guard requirements checked?
The stair layout, handrail height, guard openings, and attachment points need to be evaluated for the specific property and applicable local requirements. A handrail and a guard serve different purposes. Send photos of the full stairway and landing; changes to structure or layout may need a permit or specialist evaluation before a repair is quoted.
Can you fix a wobbly railing without replacing it?
Most of the time. A loose newel post or handrail usually needs new anchoring rather than new parts. If something is cracked or rotted, I'll show you and quote the replacement first.
Can you replace carpet on stairs with hardwood?
Yes. Once the carpet is up, I look at how the stairs were built and either cap the existing treads or replace them with solid hardwood. The walkthrough decides which, and the written quote spells it out.
Can you fix squeaky stairs?
Usually. Squeaks come from a tread rubbing against the stringer or a loose nail. They're fixed from underneath when the stairs are open below, or from the top with screws that sit below the surface.
Can you repair rotted outdoor steps?
Yes. Soft or split treads are replaced with new boards, and the stringers underneath get checked while they're open, so the steps are solid again.
How is stair work priced?
Tightening a railing or replacing a tread is billed as a $95 trip fee, then $75 an hour. Railings and stair remodels get a written quote after a walkthrough, so you know the number before work starts.
When do stairs need evaluation beyond a tread or railing repair?
Movement in the stair structure, rot in supports, damaged attachment points, or changes to the layout need evaluation before a repair is accepted. Permit and design requirements depend on the specific work. Structural work outside the agreed repair scope may need an appropriate contractor or design professional.
